Buddhism is one of the religions indigenous to the Indian subcontinent. It is based on Prince Siddhartha, or Gautam Buddha’s teachings and principles.
Buddhism has now become one of the most important religions in the world, but the first seeds of the Buddhism tree were sown in India, a few thousand years ago. Through this tour, you’ll experience the peaceful energies and spiritual tranquility of all those villages and cities that hold a highly important significance in the Buddhism history.
The trip starts from Lucknow, where you’ll spend half a day doing a guided tour of the city. Lucknow, the city of Nawabs, has a unique culture and culinary experience to offer. We will give you a chance to experience the Lucknawi hospitality and try some of the best culinary tastes Lucknow has to offer, before you leave for Balrampur the next morning in a chauffeur driven car.
There you’ll visit Sarvasti where the ruins of Kosala kingdom lie. Gautam Buddha lived here for 24 years and started to realize that there's more to life than just materialistic pleasures. This trip will also include a visit to the Jetvana Gardens. It is one of the famous Buddhist monasteries in India and where Buddha gave most of his teachings.
From there you’ll visit Lumbini. Lumbini situated in the foothills of Himalayas was where Buddha was born in 623 B.C. The beauty and serenity of the place will charm you. Devotees as well as tourists have been visiting this site for decades since it was discovered in 1890.
Your next destination will be Kushinagar, where Buddha achieved Mahaparinirvana. It is also the place of his death and his liberation from the seven cycles of death and rebirth. This small village, laden with pristine and spiritual landscapes, is 53 kms west from the city of Gorakhpur.
From Kushinagar, you’ll leave for Patna, the capital city of the state of Bihar. On the way you’ll take a short break at the small village of Vaishali, where the double storied Buddha monastery stands. It is said that Buddha visited this place many a times and discoursed here. Moreover King Ashoka built one of his famous lion pillars here, a 100 years after the event of Mahaparinirvana.
From Patna, you’ll proceed to Nalanda, where lies the ruins of the world famous Nalanda university archaeological complex. It was one of the biggest learning centers of ancient India, and explorers from distant lands wrote about it in their books. Buddha visited this place several times, and it was well known for Buddhist learning as well as its pure and monastic life. You’ll also visit the Stupa of Sariputta here.
Bodhgaya is one of the most important pilgrimage sites for Buddhists around the world. It is the place where Buddha achieved Nirvana under a Pipal or the Bodhi tree. This place of enlightenment with its peaceful atmosphere  and spiritual energies will draw you in. You will also visit the famous Mahabodhi temple complex and various other Buddhist temples in Bodhgaya.
From Bodhgaya, you’ll depart for you last destination i.e. the holy city of Varanasi.
